Notes for everyday choices

Choosing toys in India: questions for a careful parent

Begin with the child’s age guidance and the toy’s warnings, then check the relevant manufacturer licence. Wood, handmade styling or a reassuring product name cannot establish safety on their own.

Read age guidance before choosing the material

Check the stated age range, intended use, small-parts warnings and supervision instructions. Consider how the toy will be used at home, including younger children who could reach it. If information is missing from an online listing, ask for the product and packaging details before deciding.

A wooden finish or the word Montessori is not a substitute for age suitability or product evidence. This is a guide for adults making a purchase; it is not a child-facing activity or an assessment of any particular toy.

Match the licence to the maker

BIS explains that a toy manufacturing licence relates to the manufacturer and a specific manufacturing premises. A retailer’s general certificate does not establish that a particular toy is covered. Use BIS Care’s Verify Licence Details facility and compare the information with the actual product and maker.

Check the current applicable requirements and covered scope using BIS’s official resources. Rules, standard editions, exceptions and licence status can change. Do not rely on the standard year printed in an older FAQ as your only check. If a seller claims an exception, ask for the applicable basis and verify it.

Keep the information after the parcel arrives

Compare what arrived with the listing and packaging details. Keep the maker, batch or product identifier where provided, purchase record and care instructions. Follow the instructions for cleaning, use and supervision, and check the item’s condition over time.

Greenvy’s children’s-play collection is still being developed. Before a future listing, our team will need the relevant maker and product evidence as well as quality checks. No toy is approved or available to order through this guide. Ask an appropriate specialist when you need product-specific safety advice.

Keep this checklist

  • Read the age range, intended use and warnings.
  • Ask for the relevant manufacturer licence and product scope.
  • Verify details through BIS’s official resources.
  • Keep product identifiers, the purchase record and care instructions.

A question to take to the maker

Who manufactures this toy, what age is it intended for, and which current BIS licence and product scope apply?
