Notes for everyday choices

What is behind an eco-friendly product claim?

Start with one specific question: what part of this product is the claim about, and what evidence supports it? A green label can begin a conversation; it cannot answer every question.

Separate the product from its packaging

A statement about a carton does not automatically describe the bottle, its contents or the whole delivery. India’s CCPA guidance calls for environmental claims to be specific and supported. Look for a clear explanation of what the claim covers.

For your own comparison, write down the product, its packaging and its intended use separately. Ask which of these the maker has actually assessed. If a refill is offered, check whether you can obtain and use that refill in practice.

Read the certificate, including its boundaries

Ask for the issuer, certificate number, validity and exact scope. Does it name the maker, a material, a manufacturing process or the finished item? Check the issuer’s own verification route where one is available. A business registration is a different document from product evidence.

At Greenvy, manual maker review and relevant certification checks are requirements for a future listing. They are not a claim that every planned category or prospective maker has already been approved. Our first range is still taking shape.

Compare the ordinary details too

For two objects that do the same job, compare usable quantity, care, expected use, repair or refill options and delivered cost. Keep an item you already own when it still meets your needs. A material name alone does not tell you which choice will work best in your home.

For disposal, ask what you would actually do where you live. A package described as compostable or recyclable still needs an appropriate collection or processing route. Ask the maker for the conditions and local options rather than assuming your usual bin is suitable.

Keep this checklist

  • Name the exact claim and the part it covers.
  • Find the evidence, issuer, validity and product scope.
  • Check care, useful quantity and a realistic end-of-use route.
  • Leave an unclear claim as an unanswered question.

A question to take to the maker

Which part of this item does your claim cover, and can you share the evidence and its limitations?
